The daughter of an Indigenous woman who went missing from Alberta in 2015 says her mother’s remains have been found in Manitoba.

Gloria Gladue, 44, disappeared from the Wabasca area, approximately 330 kilometres north of Edmonton, in October 2015.

“This is not the outcome me and my family wanted,” daughter Nicole Gladue-Weesemat told APTN News over the phone Thursday morning.

Gladue-Weesemat says Edson RCMP broke the news to her on June 27.

She said RCMP told her Gladue’s remains were found in Manitoba, but couldn’t say where in the province the remains were found.

Gladue-Weesemat said RCMP have charged a man with second-degree murder. She said they told her he worked in the area where her mother went missing.

She says the family doesn’t know how Gladue’s remains ended up in Manitoba, and RCMP haven’t given her any more information.

“Any hope we had is now gone, and I had nothing but hope,” said an emotional Gladue-Weesemat.

“I honestly wasn’t prepared for this. I honestly thought we were going to get her back. Just not this way.”

She said police planned to release more information Thursday.

APTN has reached out to the RCMP for comment.

More to come.
